Director's Message

Washington State Directors

Welcome and thank you for visiting the Mrs. Washington America website.

The concept of a pageant for the contemporary married woman was a vision made possible by television producer David Marmel in 1977. Thirty three years later the Mrs. America pageant is now the "tradition." Like they say, "We're not the best because we're the oldest; we're the oldest because we're the best."  Mrs. Washington is a preliminary to Mrs. America and Mrs. World competitions.

I became involved in the pageant 18 years ago when I won the title of Mrs. Washington 1993. It was a dream come true at the age of 41. I've spent the next 18 years mentoring women so they could achieve their goals and dreams.

This is my husband's fourth year co-directing the pageant with me. He enjoys running errands, proofing scripts and being a master of ceremonies. He's always by my side and supports me 200%. I'm blessed to have such a wonderful and caring husband. We will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary this year!

I've had the honor and privilege of working with some of the most amazing married women who are not only beautiful but intelligent and articulate. These titleholders have spent countless hours promoting a cause of their choice and volunteering in our communities throughout the state. It's because of them that this program has grown into the most successful pageant for married women in Washington State.

We want to thank our former queens who attend each year.  It's because of you that this program is one of the most successful pageants in Washington State and the only one to be televised state wide.  A special thank you to Kathy Kannada, Mrs. Washington 2002 for being our contestant coordinator and Beth Kovacevich for holding an annual workshop at her home for the contestants.

After many years of directing the pageant, I had a vision to have it televised statewide. It came to fruition five years ago. This year will be my fifth year producing the pageant for television. The televised pageant isn't just about winning a crown and sash. It showcases the contestants' accomplishments, their making a difference in the lives of others, and having fun at the same time.

Many Blessings,

David and Pamela Curnel
